The Debate of King Milinda is a valuable document of Buddhism as well as the society of rationalist. This story is based on essence of the Buddhism and presented the methods of analysing about intangible things. Ways of solving problems in this are rational and applied various methodologies for proving hypothesis. As this debate provides much more knowledge about rational ways and able to improving thinking capability in advance level.

This conversation happened 500 years after the Parinibbana (final release from transmigration) of the Load Buddha. The Load Buddha has states that the future will be occurred a debate between King Milinda with Arahat (final emancipation) and result will be purified the Buddhism from incorrect ideas. The King Milinda has had enormous ability of rationality and no one able to solve his arguments. Due to attitude and ability of King Milinda has being bothered Scholars, Ascetics as well as Arahath monks of India in that era. Arahath Nagasena came forward to solve this problem.

King milinda has presented questions or arguments in different manner. There are sone dilemmas also presented by king and solved those using different examples by nagasena thero in accretive manner. Scholars in every level with free thinking mind can be accrued more and more knowledge that how to do professional debate as well as changing attitudes and thinking pattern in accurate way.   

As this asset is most important for every level of Professionals, Scholars, Philosophers and Person try to gain knowledge and change attitudes.

King Milinda :-           Reverence how you are feeling and what is your name?

Arahath Nagasena:-  I am feeling as Nagasena. Reverence says as Nagasena, Parents and others say as Nagasena/Surasena/Weerasena/singhasena. These names are only sign for identification, but there is no any permanent individual as Nagasena.

King Milinda :-If there is no any permanent individual, who is arms giveing and takeing; who do the evils (killing/ stealing/ committing adultery/ telling lies/ having alcohol). Due to that no any good or evil, consequences of karma are occurred.

If it is who is nagasena?

Are hairs the nagasena?

Are nails the nagasena?

Are any parts of the body the nagasena?

Are any of five aggregates (materiality, feeing, perception, formations and consciousness) the nagasena or combination of these or other than that?

Arahath Nagasena:-King Milinda, it is not any nagasena.

King Milinda :- Is the sound nagasena?

Meaning of your word is empty. Why do you lie reverence nagasena?

At that moment Arahat Nagasena began to solve the argument of king milinda.

Arahath Nagasena:- The great king, you are having noble birth and how came to here? Is it by foot or chariot?

King Milinda :- I came here by the chariot, ven nagasena.

Arahath Nagasena:-  If it is, king milinda, pl explain the chariot.

The king Is it axel the chariot; or is it wheel; or is it chassis; or is it yoke or combination of part or other than that?

King Milinda :- None of these are chariot ven nagasena.

Arahath Nagasena:- Is the sound chariot?  Meaning of your word is empty.

You are a great king of India; who are you afraid to say truth.You told that you came by chariot but you can’t show it. Why do you lie?

After this saying of Arahath Nagasena, 500 of Bactrian Greeks appreciated Nagasena thero and said them to king that suitable opposition person for arguments have met to king milinda now. They requested to king to reply to the argument of Nagasena thero.

King Milinda :- Ven nagasena, I didn’t say lies.

Methodology :-

It was got tangible example to prove this intangible soul question. Nagasena thero created a Hypothesis using tangible chariot and generalized the theory.

Analyzing and Proving

Nagasena thero had to prove that combination of five aggregates is created sign for identification the name “nagasena”. Considering absolutely, no one else could be taken as a person.  For That following Hypothesis were taken;

H0 :      combination of aggregates is not created sign for identification

H1 :      combination of aggregates is created sign for identification

The soul of nagasena cannot be identified easy, as it is intangible. Because of that Chariot had being taken to analysis the data. For dividing the person, chariot was divided as parts. After that discovered that is there a thing as chariot. But it was impossible. Then parts of chariot were collected separately and also couldn’t find a chariot.

Combinations of parts are created sign for identification the name “Chariot”. Considering absolutely, no one else could be taken as a person. And Compare the nagasena as Chariot, Parts of the Chariot as five aggregates and finally came to prove the hypothesis.  Same as the chariot, the combination of five aggregates are created sign for identification the name “nagasena”. Considering absolutely, no one else could be taken as a person.
