Way that Debate as a Scholar
King Milinda:- Ven. Nagasena, do you like to debate with me?
Ven. Nagasena:- The king, If you are debate with me as a scholar, I would like to debate and if as a king, I wouldn’t like.
King Milinda:- Ven. Nagasena, pl explain the way of debate as scholars.
Ven. Nagasena:- The king, Scholars apply synthesis and analysis; presenting the meaning till opposition are understood; Show the error; accepting the error of him; criticize and proving hypothesis using various methodologies. But they do not be angry.
Way of Debate as Kings
King Milinda:- Ven. Nagasena, pl explain the way of debate as kings.
Ven. Nagasena:- If King states something, and others do not agree or states as different, he will be punished.
King Milinda:- Ven. Nagasena, Lets we discuss as scholars.
King Milinda:- Ven. Nagasena, I ask a question.
Ven. Nagasena:- The king, grant to ask a question.
King Milinda:- Ven. Nagasena, I have asked a question.
Ven. Nagasena:- The king, I have given answer to asked question.
King Milinda:- Ven. Nagasena, What have you answered?
Ven. Nagasena:- The king, What have you asked?
After that King Milinda confirmed that Ven. Nagasena is a Scholar Person.
As it is reached to sunset, King Milinda asked to Minister Devamanthree to invite Ven. Nagasena to participate for alms giving in next day at royal palace.
Myths Ideas about Soul
Minister Ananthakaya accompanies the Ven. Nagasena and other monks to royal palace at “Sagala City”. There was a conversation between Min. Ananthakaya and Ven. Nagasena.
Min. Ananthakaya:- Who was the Nagasena, that mentioned name?
Ven. Nagasena:- Minister, how do you feel as it?
Min. Ananthakaya replied that, I feel the Inner Breath is as Name Nagasena. Ven. Nagasena asked, if inner breath sent out and didn’t come again that or came in one sent out and didn’t come again, is he can live? And Minister replied that, he will die.
Ven. Nagasena:- Have you seen trumpeters getting back inner breath after blowing?
Min. Ananthakaya:- No. Ven. Sir.
Ven. Nagasena:- So, what is the reason to alive the trumpeters blow trumpets?
Min. Ananthakaya:- Ven. sir, I have not enough knowledge to debate with you and teach me pl.
Ven. Nagasena:- It is not the soul and it is called as inhalation and exhalation. It is belongs ` to body constituent.
Then Ven. Nagasena briefed the meaning by Abhidhamma Teaching and attended to alms giving.
Purpose & Aim of the Reverences
After attending to alms giving, King Milinda asked from Ven. Nagasena that what will us discus. And replied that let’s discuss about meaningful phenomenon.
King Milinda:- What is the purpose and aim of the reverence?
Ven. Nagasena:- Extinguished present suffering and preventing the suffering may occur are purpose of reverences. Aim of the reverence is getting Nibbana which in not existing Craving and Ignorance.
Terminating the Conception and Attitudes of Buddhist Monk
King Milinda asked question about conception and tested the quality of Ven. Nagasena.
King Milinda asked that, isn’t there anyone else conception and Ven. Nagasena replied that someone may conception and someone may not. King Milinda again asked that, who may be conception and not. Ven. Nagasena described, Human who is having sins will be conception and is not having sins will not be conception.
King Milinda asked that, will you be conception or not. Ven. Nagasena replied that, if I am with grasping, I shall be conception and I am without grasping, I shall not be conception. King Milinda appreciated manner solving problem and superior attitudes of Ven.
It is mentioned that, Sins and Grasping are case to Conception. There is a concept that Arahath (getting Enlightenment) monks are not their Arahathship and Ven. Nagasena didn’t say about that and shown the quality of Ven.
